The eternal question that every home owner asks "How do I decorate around that brown sofa ?" Well, first... stay away from bringing in any more brown in the room. All brown, and no other color makes a very dull living room :( . What you really need to do is bring in other colors. If you prefer warm colors, pick beige, orange, reds and Off White. Or cool down the room with colors like greens and blue. Personally, I prefer pairing warm and cool shades as that creates a balance in the room. Look out your window and notice the nature's harmony between blue sky, green trees and brown earth.
Now the question is how to put it all together? If you were to paint the walls green, brown sofa and bring in all accent pieces in blue like throw pillows, vase, chair, art. Will it look good ? I would say, most probably not. Instead of getting blue chair - how about a blue-green-brown chair like the one above. Now that you have something that has all the colors from your color scheme, you can add other decorative accents in more than one hue from your color palate i.e blue, blue green, green, brown-blue, green-brown. The room is adjacent to the dining room which has a chair rail w/ Spanish Red on the bottom & beige on the top. I'm not sure which color to pick for the living room. ReplyDeleteUsing wallpaper to accent a wall is an excellent idea. Wallpapers are making a comeback in a huge way. But this time around, the textured, tone on tone designs are in. Though one piece of advice, to make the wallpapered wall, focal point of the room, paint the other 3 wall in a neutral hue.

Behind my sofa on the wall I have an art gallery that I would love to keep up. All the photos are in black and white and the black frames are matted in white. we are leaning towards painting the tv wall a diff color....I love greens and reds(and yellows too). The entryway and the kitchen adjoining this room are painted light yellow and bright yellow resp.

4. Accessorize.
Add much needed color. Add throw pillows in green and beige, a throw in either beige or green .

At first I went for a Balinese/Moroccan inspired room and painted the room a sandy mocha color and accented the couch with some jewel toned purple, red, and orange throw cushions. I also bought this super cool tribal/ thai looking floor lamp. Although it seems that i have things together, I cant seem to go any further. I cant find the right wall art nor the perfect carpet. So now I am thinking of returning all the accents I bought and starting over. Now I am thinking maybe I should accent the brown couches and sandy mocha wall color with baby blues and whites. I am thinking of going cobalt on the left and right frame and keeping the center piece as is. Eventually Ill add a floating shelf in between the art and put flowers or something so it can pop. I was curious to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I've had difficulty clearing my mind in getting my thoughts out. I truly do enjoy writing however it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips? Appreciate it!

After I originally left a comment I seem to have clicked on
