Beige Sofa with brown accent can be warm and inviting !!

Beige Sofa with brown accent can be warm and invitingScared of color ? You'd rather play safe and boring than take the risk of coloring those walls... Right ? Here is a color scheme that uses the safest colors in the whole wide world. Brown and Beige and nothing else !! But does it look boring to you ? No, sweetie, Absolutely Not! In fact the living room looks so tastefully done and so elegant (click on the picture above to get a better view). When I designed this collage, I wanted to re-do my green and red living in this brown an beige color palette.

Are you wondering why this works ? Well, everything in room has been balanced. Light colored beige sofa has been balanced with dark chocolate-brown stunning durrie rug. Black framed paintings in beige have been added to the white colored wall. The throw pillows are in chocolate brown color, to balance the beige of the sofa.

Darlin's, if you want to do browns and beige then remember to balance light with dark. And if you don't want to color those walls , then Don't! But do not ignore them, deck them up with wall art and accessorize. Most of us tend to bust our budget on the ever so important "furniture". But when you are setting the budget for your living room, at least 20% - 30% budget should be kept aside for rug, wall art, lighting and decorative accessories.

Living Room: Green Walls Brown Sofa

Living Room: Green Walls Brown SofaThe eternal question that every home owner asks "How do I decorate around that brown sofa ?" Well, first... stay away from bringing in any more brown in the room. All brown, and no other color makes a very dull living room :( . What you really need to do is bring in other colors. If you prefer warm colors, pick beige, orange, reds and Off White. Or cool down the room with colors like greens and blue. Personally, I prefer pairing warm and cool shades as that creates a balance in the room. Look out your window and notice the nature's harmony between blue sky, green trees and brown earth.

Now the question is how to put it all together? If you were to paint the walls green, brown sofa and bring in all accent pieces in blue like throw pillows, vase, chair, art. Will it look good ? I would say, most probably not. Instead of getting blue chair - how about a blue-green-brown chair like the one above. Now that you have something that has all the colors from your color scheme, you can add other decorative accents in more than one hue from your color palate i.e blue, blue green, green, brown-blue, green-brown. It will all work !! Go on give it a try, if it still doesn't work, leave a comment and I will be happy to help. Its my passion after all.

Room Design Idea: Green Walls - Taupe Sofa

Room Design Idea: Green Walls - Taupe SofaGREEN IS IN !! The decorating industry is abuzz with "Go Green" slogan. If you are thinking of painting your living room, green is the way to go. But remember do not go overboard, that is the 1st rule of decorating. Whether you are going to stick to monotone scheme or pair it with other colors, do not overdo the green.
Check out the picture above. To balance the green walls and the lovely pastel green chair, every thing else in the room is neutral. Even though the chair is in green color, its much lighter than the wall color, this adds drama to to the room. If you've picked the primary color for your room, do not stop there! You still need to pick the secondary colors for your room. Here, my color scheme is Green-Taupe-Black.
Most of us try to stay away from black...But black in small doses adds sophistication to any decor. How about adding black wall art to your living room ? It works great in the space above and the reason is that Green Chair !! The black wall-art draws your attention to the gorgeous pastel green chair kept against it. When selecting decorative accent pieces for your room, always bear in mind what its going to be placed on and what will be around it. And those are the colors you don't want to get. For example, the vase for the coffee table above, could not be black or taupe as it would completely disappear and not make any statement. So then what color? Green? But, that would have been predictable. So how about a vase which has some colors from the canvas hanging above the Taupe Sofa. Voila! Vase in shades of Green-Blue-Yellow, perfect solution to common dilemma.

Bedroom Color Scheme in Orange, Beige and Chocolate Brown

Double-click on the picture to see enlarged view... Color Scheme in Orange, Beige and Chocolate Brown I love this bedroom design, the warm burnt orange tones in the bedding, the lovely taupe chair by the bed and the gorgeous Fleurs dautomne Wall Art. This room is simply Divine.

Don't you ever wonder that in spite of investing in great pieces of furniture and accent pieces why your bedroom still doesn't have designer look. Well, the biggest mistake that we new home buyers make is to go with everything light colored and beige. But if everything is light colored, there would be no contrast, nothing would stand out in the room. In short every room needs a balance or as Chinese would say yin yang.

The light colored decor needs to be balanced with dark color furnishings. And the furniture is the safest place to start, if you are worried about having a dark bedroom, start out with light colored bedding and wall color and go with dark furnishings. As you gain more confidence with your decorating skills, graduate on to more colorful bedding. Another cool trick that the designers use is, to never get furniture sets, as diverse furnishings creates more interest in the room. If you see above, the headboard, the dresser and the nightstand are not really from the same set, actually are from completely different stores. Yet the bedroom looks great !! The furniture pieces share the same color and style- and darlin' that's the trick! In fact the dresser above could have been bought with its matching rectangle mirror, but doesn't the round mirror with taupe frame add a "WOW" factor to this bedroom.

If you're lost and don't know where to start in your bedroom, the trick is to find a piece of inspiration, a piece of art maybe like the one above. It has all the colors I love - burnt sienna (orange), taupe and chocolate brown. If you are not sure about orange bedding. Do not spread the comforter on your bed, instead, triple fold the comforter like a coverlet and put at the foot of the bed and add crisp white sheets. You will instantly achieve 5 star hotel look. Also note, orange has been repeated through out the bedroom but in very small doses. Orange is a bright color so you want to be careful as to how much you use it and you don't want any other color competing for attention. So to balance the look - all the other accent colors are in neutral hues like taupe and browns i.e taupe chair, taupe mirror, chocolate brown headboard, dresser and end table. But, do you know what pulls these color scheme together - its the Wall Art with all the hues form the color palette. Go on, just cover up the painting with you hand, the room would not look that WOW. So its important have at least one big piece that has all the hues from your color palette.

Don't be afraid to add some color in your life ! Once you have it, you wouldn't want to live without it !!

Brown Sofa, Blue Walls

Have you ever wished your home looked like a designer space? Really, its not that unattainable. Start with something that you absolutely adore. Use the color palette from that piece as your color inspiration. Like I started with this green-blue chair (in the picture above) with chocolate-brown legs. I am in love with this chair- isn't it adorable and yet it has a classy look. And best of all, its not that pricey either.

Once you find your color palette, you're half way to a room of your dreams. But remember do not get distracted, stick to the color palette and you will not be disappointed. Like here, I got my color palette green-blue-chocolate brown from the gorgeous pier1 chair. Single out the colors for your wall and the furniture from the color palette. Get accent pieces in more than 1 hue from the palette. Here, I've picked blue (Benjamin Moore AF-495) for the walls and chocolate brown for the sofa and the coffee table. I could have just picked all my accent pieces in green but won't that be predictable and lil too matchy matchy. So for accents how about blue-green or brown-blue or green-brown or lightblue-darkblue or whatever combination as long as it has hues from the palette. If you check out the accents in the picture : the pillows are in blue and green, rug is brown-blue, decorative vases are in blue with a hint of green. Did you notice the delightful yoga frogs in gold tone - that's my touch of whimsy !! All spaces need a lil bit whimsy, so don't be scared to add lil personal touches.

Decorate with Beige Sofa, Black & White Damask accent

Don't you love the Black&White accents used through-out this room? If everything was just black and white in the room, it would been just that - a black & white room. What really sets this room apart is the black&white theme has been used against the backdrop of neutral colors like beige & taupe. All the big pieces that is the the walls, sofa, bench, floor are all in varying shades shades of beige or taupe. But all the accent pieces like the pillows, throws, lamps, chairs, vase are in Black&White!

The Black&White accent transcends this room to another level. Damask print in Black&White is my all time favourite. Vary the Black&White ratio in the accent pieces, you are going to use. For example put a black&white damask pillow, a black pillow with a touch of white, a beige throw with a black accent. Also, remember if you ever thirst for color in your room, it would be just a matter of changing couple of throw pillows.

Resources: You can find black&white accent pillows & throws at Kohls in the bedding section. Beautiful vases in HomeGoods and TJMAX, Gorgeous Table Lamps at Target, HomeGoods.

Green Walls, Brown Sofa - Perfect for small spaces

Ever wondered what gives a small space that cohesive, that pulled together look. How do you make that small family room work for you? How do the designers do it? Very Simple! Small room - small furnishings. When you go out hunting for the perfect sofa, remember you don't always have to get a pair i.e sofa and a love seat. If you have a large space - maybe you want to consider getting a sofa, love seat and couple of chairs. But if you have small space - definitely skip the love seat instead get a pair of chairs. Its adds an interest to the room and takes it to a whole new dimension.
It all sounds good and its OK for the designers to do mix and match. But you are thinking, that chair and the sofa don't match - how will it ever look good :(. So sweeties, you just need to add some throw pillows with the chair color on the sofa. By adding a green-ivory color pillows on the sofa, not only has the decorator added the chair color but also added the wall color.
Don't forget the black - (or deep brown) - Every room needs a little bit of black. Black highlights the space and gives it a focus. Here the deep brown coffee table draws your attention to the sofa.
And dress up those walls. Hang pictures with similar color palette. Voila! you've just created a perfect room to welcome your friends and for that matter, a perfect place to chill.
