Bedroom Color Scheme in Orange, Beige and Chocolate Brown

Double-click on the picture to see enlarged view... Color Scheme in Orange, Beige and Chocolate Brown I love this bedroom design, the warm burnt orange tones in the bedding, the lovely taupe chair by the bed and the gorgeous Fleurs dautomne Wall Art. This room is simply Divine.

Don't you ever wonder that in spite of investing in great pieces of furniture and accent pieces why your bedroom still doesn't have designer look. Well, the biggest mistake that we new home buyers make is to go with everything light colored and beige. But if everything is light colored, there would be no contrast, nothing would stand out in the room. In short every room needs a balance or as Chinese would say yin yang.

The light colored decor needs to be balanced with dark color furnishings. And the furniture is the safest place to start, if you are worried about having a dark bedroom, start out with light colored bedding and wall color and go with dark furnishings. As you gain more confidence with your decorating skills, graduate on to more colorful bedding. Another cool trick that the designers use is, to never get furniture sets, as diverse furnishings creates more interest in the room. If you see above, the headboard, the dresser and the nightstand are not really from the same set, actually are from completely different stores. Yet the bedroom looks great !! The furniture pieces share the same color and style- and darlin' that's the trick! In fact the dresser above could have been bought with its matching rectangle mirror, but doesn't the round mirror with taupe frame add a "WOW" factor to this bedroom.

If you're lost and don't know where to start in your bedroom, the trick is to find a piece of inspiration, a piece of art maybe like the one above. It has all the colors I love - burnt sienna (orange), taupe and chocolate brown. If you are not sure about orange bedding. Do not spread the comforter on your bed, instead, triple fold the comforter like a coverlet and put at the foot of the bed and add crisp white sheets. You will instantly achieve 5 star hotel look. Also note, orange has been repeated through out the bedroom but in very small doses. Orange is a bright color so you want to be careful as to how much you use it and you don't want any other color competing for attention. So to balance the look - all the other accent colors are in neutral hues like taupe and browns i.e taupe chair, taupe mirror, chocolate brown headboard, dresser and end table. But, do you know what pulls these color scheme together - its the Wall Art with all the hues form the color palette. Go on, just cover up the painting with you hand, the room would not look that WOW. So its important have at least one big piece that has all the hues from your color palette.

Don't be afraid to add some color in your life ! Once you have it, you wouldn't want to live without it !!

If you'd like me to use any specific color for the designer bedroom please write to me.

Still not sure ? Steal the design idea above. But the million dollar question is where to get the same furnishings, the decorative accents and what paint color to use? so here you go...

  2. I love the burnt orange!!!!! Was just wondering if it would work in my living room. We have a leather sectional in dark brown.

  3. yeah, sure it would.
If you are scared of dark colors and want to take in small steps. First add decorative accents in beige and burnt orange. And paint the walls beige.

And if you not scared of the darker room. Add artwork, paintings, drapes in lighter hues like ivory. On the couch - put the ivory pillow and add burnt orange next to the ivory colored pillow. This way the orange pillow would pop against a lighter background.

  4. I have a huge color dilemna in living room/ dining room area.We have a dark chocolate brown couch , dark brown antique coffee table, a red armchair, the biggest painting in the room is in the dining room hanging on the wall right across from that chocolate couch. The painting is a nature scene , full of greens with some birds, birds have orange and yellow colors but very little, most of the painting is green. So I was wondering I should make that wall an accent color and use burnt orange, but couldn't decide if I should use richmond beige( benjamin moore) or pale avocado( benjamin moore)?, I have some kilim pillows which has some oranges, greens, browns on them, also a kilim rug. Could you please help me?Thank you in advance.

  5. Really like all your advice. I have just bought 2 small couches in burnt orange, in an ivory room, what do you suggest I add to soften the orange color/ pull it together. There is wall to wall carpet in a brown/light brown mix. Brown or taupe coffee table/end tables? Cant seem to pick out the rest of the furniture to work in this room. Any advice.
    Thank you.

  6. I have two beautiful chocolate brown couches and was wondering if it is ok to get an area rug in the same color , and do i have to match the drapes to the rug. We have soft yellow walls and was wondering if i could get drapes in a lighter color?

  7. Rug is a great way to introduce color !
So if you'd like to get a rug in chocolate brown, make sure it has other colors too - as that would define your color scheme.
For Drapes: You can definitely go lighter or darker yellow just make sure you add some pillows or art objects in yellow. Or you can pick out a neutral shade from the rug and use that for your drapes.

Or you can try this color combo:
    chocolatebrown-beige-mustard yellow-pale yellow-cream

    Walls: pale yellow
    Sofa: chocolate brown
    Rug: beige and brown
throw pillows: beige, mustard yellow, cream
    drapes: beige or ivory

here the beige, mustard yellow, cream throw pillows on chocolate brown sofa will pull the color scheme together.

  8. I love your blog! My home is on the beach and the living/dining area quite bright, airy with floor to ceiling glass. I wanted to have a light, clean, uncluttered but inviting sea-inspired decor. I was thinking of either a (painted) white parquet flooring or light walnut parquet with not-too-busy grain for the floor. I've just begun the decor process; the only major piece in the room is a ligne-roset Togo corner combo sofa in beige alcantara. What color combinations would you recommend for curtains, rugs and accessories? Please can you help me with your advice?

  9. I am redecorating my bedroom in these colors. I have a solid burnt orange bedspread, dark brown dresser and nightstand (window and door trim is stained dark brown), light taupe colored walls, but I have no idea what window treatments to use. I have one 27 x 55 window and one 52 x 55 on an adjacent wall. Any ideas?

  11. Wow, your hubby is a darling for building it. My own hubby cleaned up my whole potting bench and area yesterday so I'm not complaining, still, I wish I had an arbor like that Can't wait to see it after you've "twigged" it.

  12. We just moved into a new home. The formal dining area is the first room you see upon entering the home. I decorated it first with a dramatic 65 round black table and light and dark blue accents. It's beautiful. My problem is I wanted to carry the light blue into my living room with dark brown tweed and dark tables, however the area rug I bought has A lot of burnt orange running through it with the light blue/tan/light green.I bought light blue pillows and while it looks nice . it looks dull. not sure if i should forget the blue and just run with the burnt orange and tan or taupe colors for the dark brown sofa.walls are almost a yellow but called a creamy tan. the carpet a tan. Thank you for any help.Julia

  13. don't mean to swamp you with questions however I have one more. Like many new home owners We had to rush to get window coverings. We spent money on 2 1/2 wide levolor blinds. My living room has three large windows that get a lot of sun,but I hate the look of blinds. I know I should keep them up for shade, but my gut feeling is to yank them down and put some pretty panels all the way across.should I keep the shades and put sheer panels across to soften the room? with just a panel on each side? What would you do? Do you have any ideas for color of sheers or panels for this room? Again I have tan carpet, cream color walls, dark tweed sofas with the dark tables.Thank you again.Julia

  14. I just painted my living room with taupe walls and a burnt orange accent wall. I have beige sofa with dark wood trim and my wall trim is dark wood rather than the contemporary white I have been seeing everyplace. My dilema now is picking curtain colors that will go with the taupe walls and burnt orange accent wall. I am thinking something light like an off white sheer...any suggestions???? HELP!! Thanks, Shelley

  15. Hi, I've just moved into what i'm optimistically calling a studio apartment. Good thing about it are the 9-ft high doors that open onto a balcony, so lots of space for drapes. The worst: the walls are badly washed in a dull yellow, and i can't do anything about them. The furniture and fittings are all wooden, so was thinking i'd go with a chocolate/cream/orange theme with a tiny bit of gold for drama. Is there any way i can include blue in that palette? Have a ton of blue "stuff" that i don't want to hide away

  16. I live in an apartment with "dover white" walls and hunter green carpet. Would this work for me? Any tips or advice?

  17. These colors will look great if you want to use rustic decor to your house. Orange tones are warm and it blends well with the rustic theme. Also, this is a color that pops so you can use it with lighter colors so there will be balance.
